  • Glitter Cat’s HR program has been in development since June of 2020.

    June-September 2020- Eric J. Grimm and Bud Taliaferro, the founding duo of GC-HR, develop a business accountability project, then titled Anti-Racism Hospitality Overhaul.

    September 2020-June 2021- Glitter Cat worked with Greenway Barista and Vertex Coffee Roasters on a pilot program to develop handbooks and policies for each business.

    June-October 2021- Eric completes a training program and certification process to become an associate professional in human resources.

    October 2021-May 2022- Glitter Cat works with two companies and lines up an additional three developing handbooks and policies

    January 2023 - Official launch of Glitter Cat HR

    Our work so far has been deeply impactful and we are ready to have a much larger reach with this program. By helping 12 people attain their human resources certification and then develop universal documents, we stand to have an immediate and lasting positive effect on this industry.

  • 12 Glitter Cat Trainees + 10 week course +150 question proctored exam = 12 new aPHR certified professionals to develop Universal Documents for low-cost/free access for coffee businesses

    Course dates March 21-May 23, 2023 every Tuesday from 4-6pm PST

    Small/Large group meetings March 23-May 25 every Thursday from 4-6pm PST

    Complete aPHR exam within 2 weeks of course completion

    Paid internship ($1500 stipend) to develop Universal documents between June 13 - Aug 1, 2023

  • In the spirit of Trustful Transparency, one of the core values of Glitter Cat,we want to be up front and transparent about the time commitment necessary to successfully complete the certification course and universal documents.

    Cats will participate in 3 hours of class time per week spanning the 10 weeks from March 21 to May 23, 2023. Cats will also need to spend time reading course materials (on average 50 pages per week), taking practice weekly practice exams, and studying through note cards or other studying techniques. Cats can expect to dedicate about 5-6 hours per week to taking the aPHR course.

    Following completion of the course and final large group session on May 25, 2023, there will be a 2 week studying period to prepare for the exam. All participants are required to take their virtual 150 question exam on or prior to June 9, 2023.

    Starting June 13, 2023, the cohort will reunite to spend 4 hours/wk for 8 weeks developing universal HR documents (handbook templates, procedural guidelines, recommended policies etc). This portion of the program is paid at $50/hr for a total stipend of $1500. Cohort members will be paid via Form1099 as contract workers for Glitter Cat Barista.

  • While GC HR will not result directly in job placements, certified HR professionals can consult for small business or have a better opportunity to seek employment in human resources, a growing field in expanding smaller coffee businesses. We anticipate that this program will be impactful in the following ways:

    Diversifying the pool of human resources professionals in coffee and beyond

    Aiding in the professional development of ten people from different marginalized backgrounds

    Creating universal documents that honor the lived experiences of communities of color,

    2SLGBTQIAP+, disabled, neurodivergent, and persons of marginalized gender

    Setting standards for business owners to run businesses responsibly and in a forward thinking manner

    Paving the way for baristas to work at companies with the utmost respect for their craft and aid them in their professional development

    HR Certification Training & Exam: $1,400 x 10 trainees = $14,000

    Stipend for supplies: $300 x 10 trainees = $3,000 Universal Document Creation

    40 hours of work per trainee x $50/hr x 10 HR pros = $20,000

    Administrative Costs to Run Program Over 28 weeks $16,000

    Post-programming recap & planning for future projects: $10,000

    Total: $63,000

    Cost per trainee = $6,300
